Last night they replayed Rick Mercer's talking to Americans special on the CBC as some sort of Canada day special. I admit that I fell victim to the hilarity and joined in for a laugh or two.
I do feel bad that they made a show just to make Americans look like fools, but you could do the same thing to any country. I fully admit that I have no clue where most of the states are and I am even more uneducated about other countries.
However, where he found some of these people is beyond me. I would think that most Americans know that Canada is directly north and is as wide as the states, but when asked whether or not it is a good idea for Canada to start a Navy even thought they have no access to water the respondents just never caught on. They suggested that Canada could use American harbours. It was even worse when he went to Universities such as Harvard and Stanford and had students and professors congratulating Canada on making staplers legal.
If you were one of these respondents wouldn't a little bell ring in you head saying, "hey! this canadian is full of shit". Especialy when he say phrases such as "the canadian polar ice caps are about to seperate making canada a bi-polar country" or "now that the human genome has been mapped out Scientists have discovered that 80% of the Canadian population is retarded".
My only theory is that no one likes to admit that they don't know the answer so they play along. Either that or they like to humour use Canadians and our dumb questions.
