Self-censorship is the worst kind. If you are not being true to yourself are you lying to everyone? All the things left unsaid make toxic poisons. They fuel regrets that can be changed later but only through a painful process. If you lie about something are you hurting yourself more or the person you are not being honest with?
A friend of mine recently completed a workshop about taking self-inventory or something like that and came to the realization that he isn't living his life as freely as he would like. He finds that he is afraid to make life decisions because they go against the grain of the way he was brought up. He doesn't want to hurt anyone. I think he wants to be in a consequence free environment, where friends and family don't judge but only support. That world doesn't exist.
